What are veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin shells that your dentist places over the fronts of your teeth. Veneers not only make your teeth whiter, but they can also hide small imperfections, such as:

  • Chipped, broken, or cracked teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Unevenly worn teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Slightly crooked teeth

The dental veneers at Gunnerson Dental are made from porcelain, which is a material that mimics the natural coloring of your teeth right down to their opalescence. As well, porcelain veneers are tough and resist stains, allowing you to keep your bright, white smile for years to come.

What is the process for getting veneers?

Traditionally, the process for getting veneers took several visits, as your dentist had to prepare your teeth and then send off impressions for custom manufacture at an outside lab. At Gunnerson Dental, you can get your dental veneers in one visit thanks to advanced CEREC technology.

The team at Gunnerson Dental uses CEREC for incredibly precise, 3D imaging of your teeth, which the special software then translates into milling instructions. But rather than sending these instructions off to an outside lab, Gunnerson Dental creates your customized veneers right in their office, eliminating this time-consuming step and making the process more convenient for you.

When your veneers are ready, your dentist bonds them into place, making sure they fit well and blend in seamlessly with your existing teeth.

How long do veneers last?

Since veneers are made from porcelain, they’re designed to last for 10-20 years, but much of their longevity is up to you based on the care you provide. If you commit to a regular cleaning regimen, avoid foods that stain, and keep up with your regular preventive visits, you can prolong the life of your veneers. Gunnerson Dental warranties your veneers, so if a problem arises, you may be covered.

If your veneers do need to be replaced, the good news is that getting replacements is a snap since Gunnerson Dental has everything you need under one roof.

It’s important to note that should you decide to get veneers, you will always need to have them. You won’t be able to pursue other cosmetic dentistry options because your dentist removes your enamel to make room for the veneers. However, this option is one of the best you can choose.

If you’d like to explore whether veneers are a good option for your teeth, call Gunnerson Dental or use the online scheduling tool.
