If you’ve had multiple teeth knocked out or lost to severe cavities, it can significantly compromise the oral function in that part of your mouth. In a situation like this, Dr. K. Cheyn Gunnerson can offer a few different options to replace the function of your missing teeth.

Sometimes dental implants mounted to a bridge can effectively restore the presence and function of multiple missing teeth. However, this requires multiple oral surgeries. If you’re uncomfortable with this idea, Dr. K. Cheyn Gunnerson might recommend fitting you for a removable partial denture.

This miniature version of complete dentures will correspond to the location and general shape of the missing teeth. It can be removed for regular cleaning and when you sleep at night. The artificial teeth are set into a material that mimics the appearance of natural gum tissues. It will also serve as a foundation to hold them tightly in your mouth. Some partials also include special hardware that locks them in with the surrounding teeth.

Dr. K. Cheyn Gunnerson will start by examining your mouth and taking a few x-rays to assess the health of the teeth neighboring the existing void. If they find any other teeth with issues in the area, he might recommend extracting them and including them in the partial denture.

Once all of your teeth in question have been addressed, Dr. K. Cheyn Gunnerson will cast a detailed impression of the area. This includes the surrounding gums, and neighboring teeth, as well as the corresponding teeth in your bite. The impression will then be sent to a dental lab where your new partial denture will be created.
