Make sure that in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, you don’t forget to take care of your teeth—no one wants tooth decay or gum disease as a holiday present! Here are some things to remember to keep your mouth healthy as you go throughout your holiday season.

Brush: Brush your teeth for 2 minutes, two times per day. If you have a hard time taking that much time on your teeth, turn up some holiday music and dance! The two minutes will fly by. If you can, turn brushing teeth time into family time—brushing with your child or partner starting this week could get you an extra 3 hours of one-on-one time before the end of 2017.

Replace: Toothbrushes need to be replaced every 3-4 months. It may be a good idea to include a new toothbrush in your child’s or partner’s gift this year. There are many fun colors and styles available, even for adults. Choose a toothbrush with very soft bristles that has the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the packaging to ensure a quality product that will clean your teeth and gums without injuring them.

Floss: Floss every day, for 2-3 minutes each session. It doesn’t matter if you floss before or after you brush, as long as you do it. Don’t forget to floss behind your back teeth! If you are just beginning to floss regularly, it is common to have a little discomfort. If it lasts more than 2 weeks, contact your dentist.

Visit Your Dentist: Make sure you visit your dentist biannually. To schedule an appointment in Payson, Utah, call Gunnerson Dental at 801-658-0102. Dr. K. Cheyn Gunnerson and our team look forward to seeing you!
