HealthDay News published an article this Friday, linking poor dental health to decreased abilities. According to a study published by the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, “There is a link between complete tooth loss and mental and physical problems when you are 60 years of age or older. Particularly ages 60 – 74.”

However, the findings don’t absolutely prove that tooth loss is the cause of the physical or mental decline.

Lead Author, George Tsakos, professor of epidemiology and public health at University College London, said in a college news release; “Regardless of what is behind the link between tooth loss and decline in function, recognizing excessive tooth loss presents an opportunity for early identification of adults at higher risk of faster mental and physical decline later in their life.”

The best way to help prevent tooth loss is to brush and floss twice a day and to visit your hygienist every 6 months! To schedule your next teeth cleaning appointment, call (801) 658-1567 today!
