Dr. Gunnerson Is Committed To Staying Up-To-Date On Dental Technology.
Why Does Dr. Gunnerson Treat Sleep Apnea?
We are dedicated to treating our patients as a whole and not just as a smile. Sleep apnea is a common yet dangerous condition that, if left untreated, can cause major damage to your overall health including death. At our practice, we are proud to be the only dental office in Utah County to use CEREC conebeam technology with the SICAT imaging system to diagnose and treat sleep apnea.
What Is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a common disorder that is characterized by frequent interruptions and pauses in your breathing while sleeping. Obstructive sleep apnea causes these interruptions by an obstructed airway. This can happen as a result of collapsed tissue or the tongue rolling back into the throat. If left untreated, sleep apnea can contribute to several major health issues, including stroke, heart disease, high blood pressure, and liver problems.
How Dr. Gunnerson Can Help You
At Gunnerson Dental, we utilize the SICAT system to help manage your sleep apnea treatment. The SICAT system is the first 3D system that not only creates an accurate, digital replica of the upper airway but also enables our dentist to visually plan your appliance-based treatment. In a matter of seconds, our team can use our CEREC conebeam technology to create a 3D replica of your mouth, throat, upper airway and all other supporting systems. With this replica, Dr. Gunnerson can perfectly visualize any obstructions or constrictions in the airway to diagnose the exact cause of your sleep apnea.
With this information, we can then proceed to create a completely personalized treatment plan that is based on the cause of your unique sleep apnea. Dr. Gunnerson can use the 3D image of your mouth to design a customized oral appliance that fits your mouth and helps keep your airway open while you sleep. Because your oral appliance is created from the digital replica of your own oral structure, you can rest assured that your appliance will fit comfortably without needing adjustments.
